Nsikan Solomon Etim (NGA) is 1 game behind at 9-1 +1023, #3 improving from #5. David Eldar (AUS) is +724, on a 7-game winning streak, #4 improving from #7. Komol Panyasophonlert (THA) is 2 games behind the leader at 8-2 +1197, #5 sliding from #3. Rex Ogbakpa (NGA) is +964, #6 slipping from #4. Dave Wiegand (USA) is +934, #7 rising from #9. Piotr Andronowski (Sco) is +650, #8 sliding from #6.

In Class B: Raymond Gbaraba (NGA) is the lead, 7-3 +238. Solomon Lephoto (ZAF) is 0.5 games behind at 6.5-3.5 +131, on a 3-game winning streak, #15 rising from #17. Fern Wheelwright (ZAF) is 1 game behind the leader at 6-4 -185, on a 3-game winning streak, #18 climbing from #22.

High Win: Nigel Richards (NZL) 549-304 vs. Rex Ogbakpa (NGA). Low Win: Andrew Goldberg (ZAF) 358-327 vs. Moses Kibet (ZAF). High Loss: Anthony Ikolo (NGA) 447-466 vs. Dave Wiegand (USA). Low Losses: Pam Field (ZAF) 277-390 vs. Gwen Rea (ZAF); Kay Faust (USA) 277-402 vs. Joy Palm (ZAF).

It's the first round of Day 2. All players accounted for except for Ashley Willenberg (ZAF), who gets a forfeit loss. At the top board, which will be automatically chosen based on standings from this round forward, we have the undefeated Nigel Richards (NZL) facing Rex Ogbakpa (NGA). It starts well for Rex, as Nigel has to trade from a blank and six consonants to open, giving Rex BEAUX keeping IS, which Rex then immediately extends to BEAUXITE for a total of 95 points. Nigel's second and third turns are bingoes though (UTIlIZED and FLOATIER), followed up later with DILUTING and NAmESAKE for an eventual 245-point win.

Thank you to Barbara Montgomery for volunteering to record the morning's games; she did an excellent job for a first-time annotator.
