After a last-minute emergency bag resewing, we started close to on time, with a full complement of 46 players. The annotators were running late, so I got to pinch-annotate (while taking photos and entering data), which I always enjoy because I got to watch a game up close. Zubeida Brey (ZAF) opened with CELT for 12, giving Nigel Richards (NZL) one of the three tiles he needed to bingo from HIIPLOT, and it was downhill from there for Zubeida, who got down RUSTLED (85) and ROTARIES (59) to Nigel's DEMISED (81) and WANDOOS (76), as well as double-double QUINTAR (64) and the pretty QI-GONG extension.

The pairings for the first day are a fixed group of nine-round round robins, choosing players randomly from deciles. The featured annotated board will consist of the highest-seeded player that can be chosen each round where neither player has been annotated yet.

Nsikan Solomon Etim (NGA) and Mpakaboari Jack (NGA) arrived at the end of this round. Their opponents were paired with each other, and Mpakaboari Jack (NGA) and Nsikan Solomon Etim (NGA) will play a make-up game at the end of the day.
