Round 20 Auto-CommentaryHoward Warner (NZL) is in the lead, 19-1 +2797, on a 17-game winning streak. Theresa Brousson (MLT) is 1 game behind at 18-2 +3095, on a 14-game winning streak. Helen Gipson (Sco) is +2158, on a 6-game winning streak. Cecil Muscat (MLT) is 4 games behind the leader at 15-5 +1471. Simon Gillam (Sco) is +1312, on a 9-game winning streak. High Win: Theresa Brousson (MLT) 635-260 vs. Nicky Huitson (Eng). Low Win: Janet Bonham (Eng) 361-332 vs. Alfred Xuereb (MLT). High Loss: Nuala O'Rourke (NIr) 429-500 vs. Helen Gipson (Sco). Low Loss: Nicky Huitson (Eng) 260-635 vs. Theresa Brousson (MLT). Taking photos this round of as many Q plays as I can, I spot EQUISETAS* where Theresa Brousson (MLT) is playing Nicky Huitson (Eng) and wonder who played it. The anagram appears not to have been playable. Judging by the embarrassed look on her face, I'll guess it was Theresa, who won 635-260. Josephine Mayo (MLT) gets the Okoro bye this round, bringing her to 3-2 +94 after missing the first two days. I have to remember to pair her manually after the round robin ends, and should think about a reasonable way of automating the process (e.g., by attributing 7.5 unrated wins and losses to her only for pairing purposes), as in accelerated Swiss pairings. I get only four boards down the field looking for Q plays before I get to the first board that has already finished and squared off their tiles. Is this statistically probable? Albert Zammit (MLT) was impressed with Mihai Pantis's (ROM) word knowledge, when Mihai bingoed hooking the S- on -ENVY. Amy Byrne's spot prize this round is for high word. Winning a bottle of wine is Howard Warner (NZL) for SANGAREE (131), breaking what would have been a 101-point tie between Theresa Brousson's (MLT) TEMSING and Helen Gipson's (Sco) HOMETOWN. Fittingly, SANGAREE is defined as "an alcoholic beverage". |
