We are all in one room together today, in the Vistana Suite, which has changed the atmosphere of the event a little: it's more convivial, to be sure. We moved furniture a little more at the beginning of the morning to get players out from under cold-air vents. The air conditioning is keeping the room at a comfortably cool temperature despite the close proximity of 64 bodies, but it does require pumping in a steady stream of refrigerated air.

In the Open Division:

Allan Simmons (Sco) began the round at 8-0 +1180 with a two-game lead over Helen Gipson (Sco), Simon Gillam (Sco), Elie Dangoor (Eng), Nicky Vella-Laurenti (MLT) and Nuala O'Rourke (NIr). Simmons beat Gillam, Dangoor beat Gipson and Domniczak beat Vella-Laurenti, so Simmons now leads Dangoor and Dominiczak by two games and faces Dominiczak at Board 1 next round.

High game of the round: Theresa Brousson (MLT) 507-394 over Howard Warner (NZL). High loss: Chris Lipe (USA) 405-486 to Bob Violett (Eng).

In the Second Division:

Dominic Borg (MLT) and Josephine Mayo (MLT) defeat third and top seeds Sammy Mangion (MLT) and Daniel Milton (USA) and remain at the top of the field on 8-1 +629 and +281. Behind them is Mario Seychell (MLT), alone on 7-2.
