Registration ran a little bit late due to problems setting up a replacement router in the tournament room, so Tournament Director Amy Byrne began general announcements at 12:15 (15 minutes after the announced start time), while I (Technical Director John Chew) scrambled to adjust pairings as the player roster continued to evolve. We had everyone in their seats playing the first of today's eight rounds by 12:30, and will be catching up to the schedule over the course of the afternoon and evening.

As I write this, we have a total of 12 countries represented from 5 continents, with 34 players in the Open division and 28 in the lower division. It's hard to identify any one factor in the wide appeal of this event, which must include the tourist appeal of Malta itself, the central location, and the history of the event.
