Division A Round 24 Auto-Commentary

David Webb (Eng) stays in the lead for the 7th consecutive round, 20-4 +1920. Austin Shin (Eng) is 1 game behind at 19-5 +2017, on a 3-game winning streak, remaining steady at #2 for 7 rounds. Theresa Brousson (MLT) is 4 games behind the leader at 16-8 +957, still at #3 for 16 rounds.

In Class B: Charles Micallef (MLT) is the lead, 14-10 +584. Naomi Landau (ISR) is 2 games behind at 12-12 +31, #10 up from #12. Jayne Mackenzie (NIr) is -214, #11 dropping from #9. Mario Saliba (MLT) is -568, #12 up from #14. Nicky Vella-Laurenti (MLT) is 3 games behind the leader at 11-13 -7, #13 dropping from #11.

High Win: Austin Shin (Eng) 540-327 vs. David Delicata (MLT). Low Win: Simon Gillam (Sco) 371-343 vs. Ray Tate (Sco). High Loss: David Webb (Eng) 452-492 vs. Theresa Brousson (MLT). Low Loss: Phil Kelly (Eng) 316-476 vs. Cecil Muscat (MLT).

Director's call: post-cataract patient says that she cannot use wind-up timer, asks to borrow my old iPhone 4 running Zarf. Okay.

Director's call: Player A drew 4 instead of 3. Player B flipped 4 instead of 3.A Apply Rule 3.9.6 (Improperly Corrected Overdraws): "If an opponent correcting an overdraw turns too many tiles face up, all exposed tiles must be replaced face down. The opponent then repeats subsection 3.9.5(a)(ii) or (b)(ii) as necessary, but may turn face up only X tiles, and must return those X tiles to the bag."

Director's call: Cataract patient's opponent does not know how to use Zarf as a clock, switches it into word lookup mode. Switched back.

Director's call: Water spill on floor. Call housekeeping.

It's perhaps worth noting that at the North American Scrabble Championship, players are permitted beverages only in closed-top containers, and that water stations dispense water only in conical cups.

David Webb (Eng) loses 452-492 to Theresa Brousson (MLT) and is now 20-4 +1920, but with Austin Shin (Eng) one game back on 19 wins and Theresa on 16, there is no way for one of the top two not to make it to 21 wins, so they will play each other until one of them clinches the event.
