Player A made a play, tried to designate the play orally. Player B restarted Player A's clock and requested a written designation. Player A paused the clock, then misdesignated the blank in writing, circling the wrong letter. Player B challenged the clearly unacceptable play. Player A protested.

Three directors ruled that designating the blank in writing is determinative, but that Player A is entitled to additional time for having his clock restarted inappropriately.
