40 players from 15 countries are playing in this first-ever Last Chance Qualifier for the Scrabble Champions Tournament (formerly known as the World Scrabble Championship). The top 4 adults and 1 youth after 8 rounds will advance to the SCT Invitational tomorrow; the next 4 adults will win Open Passes to compete in side events.

Play began a little late, at 9:20, due to a hotel power failure which provided for lengthier opening announcements than originally planned.
