It has been two years since the inaugural Cape Town International Scrabble Tournament, and the organising committee, chaired by Gerald Davids (ZAF) has been hard at work recruiting sponsors and players for what they hope will be a biennial fixture on the international tournament circuit. This year's event features a prize pool in excess of ZAR 200,000 (~USD 17,000), and with defending champion Nigel Richards unable to attend at the last minute due to visa issues, there's no telling who will emerge victorious on Sunday. We have 41 of 42 players present and ready to play; Oyebola Alli (NGA) will take several forfeits tomorrow morning before joining the event in progress. Players are scheduled to play a full round robin, followed by one round of king-of-the-hill pairings. Each round will feature a live Facebook video feed of board 1, as well as statistics, photos and commentary. Enjoy the show! |
