Round 9 will start at 10:00 A.M. local time on Friday. Please note that the mall won't be open yet at that time, so you'll need to go through the loading dock on the east side of the mall.

Also, we are moving Round 16 from Friday to Saturday, to ensure a punctual start of the Friday evening reception.

Most players were present on time for the start of the day, with this round beginning in relative peace and quiet, in the abundant natural light of the mall atrium, before the doors opened to the public, and on went the air conditioning, sound systems and artificial lighting.

Weera Saengsit (THA) joins the tournament this round: we will have 65 players in the event for the rest of the day, necessitating a bye. This round's bye was initially assigned to Isao Takemura (JPN), which would have given him his first win, albeit unearned. When it turned out however that there was a late player missing from the bottom board, I asked Isao to play his opponent instead, which ended up giving him his first-ever game win in internationally rated play.
